Days 21 & 22

April 28th & 29th

Yesterday was a slow, rainy, study day with not much working out besides stretching. This morning, however, I completed a kickboxing/abs workout AND went for a walk/jog all before 7 a.m. Yay :) For dinner today I made a summer salad of sorts: sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, edamame beans, onions, green bell pepper, sea salt, black pepper, and fresh basil from my garden. Delish and healthy, win win! I did add turkey pepperoni which was, admittedly, a bit of a cheat.

Physical therapy starts tomorrow morning and, if I get their blessing, I am signing up for a 5k Color Run this fall!

Next Scheduled Run: Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. (Won’t run tomorrow because my appointment is in the morning and I want my muscles at neutral)

Day 19-20

April 26th & 27th

These have been failure days for working out. I told you the kickboxing kicked my butt- I wasn’t kidding! Friday I was so sore and today I was (1) busy and (2) so stiff I can barely walk. I was stupid and wore flat sandals today, so now my tendonitis is acting up and my calves hurt. Tomorrow I am going to try to workout, but if I still hurt like this I will do some yoga and call it a day. Being this sore for this long after a workout can’t be normal. Speaking of normal, I’m wearing that night brace the podiatrist gave me. Uhgh. It hurts and makes my feet numb. Healing is a long road. Physical therapy starts Tuesday.

Next Scheduled Run: Monday, 6:45 a.m.

Days 12-18

April 19th-25th

I am back from my vacation! I ate like most people do on vacations- whatever and whenever I wanted. I did not work out per say, but I walked all day, every day as I played tourist. Got back last night and back to routine. Kickboxed today, but still ate all the delicious sourdough bread I wanted. No, that’s a lie. I ate half a loaf. I wanted the whole loaf.

Tomorrow back to healthy lifestyle for real. My feet are too sore to run in the morning, but I will do this kickboxing routine again. It beat me up and I love it! I will get back to running as soon as I can, just giving my poor, swollen ankles a break.

Next scheduled run: Saturday morning, at the gym.

Day 11

April 18th

I have not worked out today. And I ate chicken and rice with a deliciously fattening butter sauce…and later had a rice krispy treat. This is my confession….but also my motivation: I will work out tonight! Maybe a run, maybe a Jillian Michaels DVD, but a workout will be mine, oh it will be mine. (Dumb and Dumber anyone?)

Next Scheduled workout: TONIGHT!

Day 10

April 17th

I am posting this a day late, but we are pretending it is for today (yesterday)…

I ran this morning, farther than I have previously been able. It is so exciting to watch my body adjust to the struggle and adapt to meet the demand. Sure, I can hardly run a mile, but it is more than I could do a week ago and I am getting better with every run.

Next Scheduled Run: Let’s say tomorrow, April 18th, even though I think that is a yoga day.

My next gear purchase will be something to track how far I go when I’m not on a treadmill. I need some real numbers here.

Day 9

April 16th

I woke up at a quarter of 5 this morning. Did not sleep well- or really at all. I have so much to do before this trip! We leave Friday, but with work during the day, evenings are really my only time to get anything done. I’m going to have to fit yoga in somewhere. Maybe when the sun comes up- that would be neat. This week I am trying a gluten-free diet. I have already gone dairy-free trying to figure out what is wrong: my stomach constantly feels full and bloated, even when I haven’t had anything to eat. This morning I kinda screwed it up: 5 a.m. and I’m having a single serving pack of Cheez-Its. I don’t know if they have gluten, but I was trying to wake myself up. Yesterday my diet mostly consisted of Lean1 protein smoothies from SmoothieKing.

Next scheduled run: tomorrow, 6:30 a.m. (trying to beat the crowds of school children waiting for the bus. I encountered that problem yesterday)

Day 8

Monday, April 15th

Ran at the gym this morning. I like running on the treadmill, but it was sad seeing just how slow/short my run actually was. Confession time: I only went 1 mile and I walked half of it.

Today was the Boston Marathon. I don’t know if I will ever do a marathon (right now I am just working towards my first 5k), but this year’s one in Boston was a great discourager: no one knows too many details right now, but 3 people were killed and over 100 injured in two bombs that went off right near the finish line. How sad to think that some of those runners will never run or walk again– many lost their legs in the blasts.

Prayers are with Boston, and all the families affected. I am now even more thankful for my ability to run and will do my best to make the most of it.

Tomorrow is a yoga day. Next scheduled run: Wednesday, 6:45 a.m.

Day 5

April 12, 2013

This morning, besides sleeping through my alarm for 45 minutes, I was still uncertain about my ankles so I did a Yoga workout. I didn’t eat until 2:15pm- in which my husband handed me a taco. Strangely, I felt better working out on an empty stomach. Tomorrow is a busy Saturday, bust I’m going to try and squeeze in a run at the gym.

Day 4

Cursed ankles. I woke up to run this morning and my right ankle was sore. I didn’t want to risk further injury, so I just walked instead of ran. My ankle hurt all day long and only this evening began to improve.

Tomorrow should be a yoga day, but I think I will try to run in the a.m. if my ankle is up for it.

Next (tentatively) Scheduled Run: Tomorrow 6:45 a.m.
