The Past Few Days

Days 170-174

Goodness, I can’t even remember what days I worked out. I will tell you this: it was not as much as it should have been. That said, I did run last night for about 15 minutes. I cannot tell you how glorious it is to have found my “running breath”. I finally understand all those people who say things like ‘running is when I do all my thinking’. Until now, I’ve been like ‘what are you talking about? Running is when I am pep-talking myself not to be a wimp and stop hyperventilating’. But I finally get it! Once you are in a running rhythm with your breathing, you can really switch on the autopilot and think or whatever. I may download some audiobooks and listen while I run. How about that; fitness and education rolled into one. This is almost as great as the day I realized I could curl my hair and study at the same time. ;)

Day 169

Fell asleep drinking tea before my morning workout and when I woke upi didn’t have enough time to go to the gym. I opted for something simpler: a neighborhood run. However, while I was getting my shoes I passed a window….and saw the rain. Instead of braving the weather like a big girl, I dida measly 30 sit-ups while making breakfast. Run tonight! No excuses! Rain or shine!

Days 165, 166, 167, & 168

September 20
Crazy day. Typical Friday? Did not work out today, but ate healthy foods. I still feel a little…hmm, off? I hope I’m not coming down with something.

September 21
Was out of town today and spent most of my waking hours in a library with a Pumpkin flavored coffee (delicious, btw). Did not work out, but I did bring my running shoes- it’s just I preferred studying with my husband (whom I haven’t seen in a week!).

September 22
HAPPY AUTUMN! I love fall. What a beautiful morning to begin the new season! God is so good; He gave me lovely (LOVELY) autumn weather for my run this morning. I live too far south for my Yankee blood, but it was a cool 60-something* early this morning. So pretty. To my delight, the weather lasted all day. I got my traditional Pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks today. As a rule, I don’t like Starbucks (nothing but sugar, fats, and liberal ideology at that place), but a Pumpkin Spice latte is the only way to properly herald the new season.

September 23
I didn’t get to bed until almost 2AM last night and consequently woke up a full 45 minutes later than planned. My planned morning run was necessarily canceled, but I will make up for it in the morning. I am hoping for another nice morning to run in.

Days 156-163 (whew!)

I have been very bad at keeping this blog up. What has happened to my dedication?

I haven’t been totally slacking though; despite not having posted, I have been keeping up my workouts.

September 11th -Wednesday

Twelve years since 9/11. I can’t believe it’s been that long. God bless America.

September 12th

Went to the gym this morning

September 13th

Gym this morning with my husband. The man ran laps around me (literally).

September 14th

Went to a new farmers market in the next town over. It had a quaint little band—I kid you not—playing on guitars and A BANJO. It enhanced the “country” feel for sure!

Went for a little run and GUESS WHAT! : I found my rhythm. I FINALLY figured out how to breathe comfortably while I run—for awhile anyway.

September 15th

Sundays are toughies because I’m at church for half the day then the other half I’m frantically trying to get ready for the week. I was determined to run though. At 8:00 pm I had my running shoes on, ready to go. My husband was commenting on how exhausted he felt and asked me to lay on the couch “for just one minute”. It was a trap. I woke up the next morning, still in my running clothes and so not ready for Monday.

September 16th

Still in my running clothes from last night’s failed attempt, so I ran this morning. Not far, but it was an invigorating start to my day.

September 17th

Started the morning with Jillian Michaels’ “30 Day Shred” DVD. I was delighted to find it was easy to complete. Will be moving to level 2 next time rather than building up through level one slowly.

Ended the day with running 1 mile and walking 1 mile (alternating every half mile) with a friend, then joining that same friend for a Mexican dinner. I got a healthy chopped salad, no dressing, but still felt SO FULL for hours.

September 18th

Certainly feeling yesterday’s workout/s now. Had a hectic day and can safely say, at 10:30 at night, I will not be working out. Jillian Michaels and a run scheduled for tomorrow!

Update for the WEEK

I won’t break down the days for you because, honestly, I don’t remember what happened. Out of the past six days, I have been to the “big” gym I think twice and the “little” (apartment) gym twice, and I have gone on two neighborhood runs. My eating has been predominantly healthy (minus an Oreo and movie night with my husband Sunday night) with a few snacks here and there.
I was busy Wednesday and forgot to post, but Thursday started a chain of events that have kept me busy all weekend. My lovingly annoying cat, Beowulf (“Wulf”), begin to show symptoms of a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) Thursday evening- a very serious illness that culminated in a call to the ER vet on Friday evening. Sadly, the toxins from the UTI had very quickly spread across his lungs, liver, and brain and the vet gave a grim prognosis should we proceed with surgery so we tearfully decided to put him to sleep. Poor guy. I miss his head-bumps. That nasty event has really put a damper on my workouts and blogging. This week I pushed “RESTART” and began with Monday- Rest day. Today is Tuesday Day 155- September 10th and the prep-for-5k plan says a “light run- 10 minutes” which I will do this evening.

Day 148

This morning I switched up my plan a little by starting the day with a run. I went only about a half mile but here’s why I was excited: in that half mile (which was approximately five minutes), my ankles did not tense up, I did not panic for air, and I did not stop, not once. I went the whole bit outside without pausing until I had finished the lap. Tonight I will cross train with some yoga. This is progress. It is slow, like a turtle in peanut butter, but it is progress.
