Running in Autumn!

b7444c3e0c186330a06a955ddf640d1dIt’s Day 4 of running for me.

My Achilles tendonitis has been really bothering me lately so I’ve been hesitant to run; however, I can’t be a cripple forever. I found a training program that has you walk for 5 minutes, run for 1 minute, walk 5, run 2, walk 4, sprint for 8 seconds, then walk for 2 minutes as a cool down- that’s the first four days anyway. I finished the third run. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I LOVED IT. I have absolutely loved all three of the run/walks.  I carefully stretch before and after so it doesn’t hurt too badly. I should have run yesterday- and I meant to!- but I kept getting distracted by weekend to-do’s. Besides that though, England is proving a beautiful place to run. It is Autumn and the air is crisp and the leaves are crunchy. I am in runner’s heaven. …Except for days like this morning when it is freezing and wet.

In other news, I got a running buddy!

My dog (a 5 year old Sheltie/Aussie/Collie), if you recall, stayed with my parents when I moved overseas. I tried to live the dog-less life, I really did… but I failed.

Meet Ranger.running buddy

He is a (now) ten week old border collie from a farm in south Yorkshire. His parents were pets though and not working dogs, so his energy shouldn’t be off-the-wall crazy. His little legs can’t keep up yet, but when he’s bigger he will be a great running buddy. The picture to the right was taken last weekend at a 5k my husband ran. Little man was upset he had to wait on the sidelines.20141003_154847_HDR

Border collies need lots of exercise and mental stimulation, so he will be perfect for keeping me motivated to get out and run…. although he is a great snuggle bug. When I sit on the couch to read, he always wants to be up there with me, either sleeping against me or watching passer-bys out our bay windows.

Happy Monday, dear readers!
